Aquarium Heater & Filter Size Chart (Maker Specs)

Last reviewed: Oct 6, 2026 · Next review planned: January 2027

Published heater watts and the tank range each maker states, plus filter rated flow and the tank size printed with it. Accessed October 6, 2026. 32 rows. A blank on the source is the words "not listed".

Use the chart next to the calculator, not instead of it. The calculator is this site's planning function for a stated room and target. A maker chart is that maker's band, under the conditions that maker printed. When two charts both contain the same gallons, both rows stay. This page does not pick one.

One worked example

Inputs: 20 gallons, room 68°F, target 78°F. The rise is 10°F. This calculator uses 4 watts per gallon for a rise above 9°F and at most 15°F. Raw watts are 20 × 4 = 80. The next standard size at or above 80 is 100 watts. One heater, because the two-heater note starts at 40 gallons.

The same 20 gallons sits in more than one published row. Aqueon lists it in the 50 watt band (5-20 gallons) and the 100 watt band (15-40 gallons), and that chart does not state a room. EHEIM type 3613 is 75 watts for 15.8-26.4 US gallons, at a 70°F room and water up to 79°F. Fluval E100 is 100 watts for aquariums up to 30 US gallons, and the E-series manual says those volumes are approximate for water up to 78°F with a 68°F room. Those are separate rows below. They are not averaged into 100 watts.

Fluval C4 prints 264 US GPH / 900 LPH at 120 V and 238 US GPH / 900 LPH at 230-240 V. Both pairs are copied as printed. EHEIM classic flow is litres per hour at 50 Hz. US gallons per hour are not listed on those pages, so this table does not convert them. AquaClear and Tetra Whisper are not rows here: on October 6, 2026 the AquaClear series page did not return a readable spec table, and the Tetra Whisper HTML that was retrieved did not include a GPH list. Shop listings were not used to fill those gaps.
